From the EAST

Greetings from the East

Wow! Has time flew by, the Holidays are upon us and this year is drawing to a close. What a wonderful time we have had this year, as I sit writing this article and reflecting back on how many new brothers I have met, how many friends I have become closer with, it is all amazing. This year we have had some great events, Pioneer Water Land, the Special Olympics, Dinner and Movies, passing out hotdogs and drinks at the West Denison Baseball League, cleaning up Euclid Beach Park, and working at the Food Bank, has clearly gave notice that Collinwood Lodge is very active and willing to not only help the community, but also willing to help worthy distressed Master Masons. The events I named off were only the tip of what we did. In addition to all the social programs, we achieved the Grand Masters Award, Bronze level in donations for the Special Olympics, Platinum level for attendance for district inspection (we were again 100%), and attended all the district education events.

These awards could not have been accomplished with out the help of a whole lot of brothers. It would be impossible to name all who worked so hard, but I do want to mention a few, WB Wayne Seaman, did a fantastic job of coordinating the Special Olympics fund raising events. Brother Jeff Hance, did an outstanding job of traveling, so much so, if he wasn't in attendance people wanted to know where he was. WB Hob Miller, for his efforts of keeping us on track and informed. And let me not forget RWB John Cochell, for all the work and guidance he gave to make this year a success. I do want to thank the Eastern Stars as a whole, their attendance, help, and commitment is something I will never forget; Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

As this year draws to a close the reflection can only be drawn to a new year. I have been honored to be re-elected to serve the Lodge as Master for the 2011-2012 year. I plan on having as much success as I did this year, even more. It is though with mixed emotions that I become master for the second year. Although I am ecstatic about being master and look forward to another opportunity, I am saddened by the fact that our Senior Warden, Jason Miskiewicz, needed to step down. His commitment to achieving his education from John Carroll; should be commended and applauded. His dedication to the Lodge should also not go unnoticed. Brother Jason has worked hard in helping Collinwood achieve our many goals and is a valuable part of our membership. His leadership will be missed.

As the Holiday Season approaches, so does our annual Installation of officers (December 3, 2011, 7:30pm, Dinner at 6:00pm) our Christmas party (December 18, 2011, 2:00pm). Last years events were so much fun, even Santa couldn't stay away. Come join in the fellowship and share the holiday spirit with your extended family.

I wish everyone a very happy holidays and I look forward to seeing you at our events through out the year.

My Brothers,

It is always such a pleasure to write to you as the Worshipful Master of Collinwood Lodge. I am having such a great time traveling and representing the Lodge, and making new acquaintances. For those of you who have never traveled or those who have gotten away from it, I want to stress that you are missing a big part of Masonry. I can’t tell you how many people I enjoy seeing on a regular basis. The friends and the stories are priceless. I have also grown closer to a number of our own members though the sharing of time. Our Senior Deacon, Jeff Hance, has done an outstanding job coordinating the traveling for the year. As of this writing it is not too late to get on board and share in the brotherhood of traveling.

Our own inspection was on March 14, and I can tell you I was proud of each and every one of the officers. For those of you who could not attend we had a really nice event, starting with a fine dinner prepared by Lianne Vargo. She has been a great help this year preparing dinners and helping in any why she can. I owe her a great deal for all the help. With that said I can’t thank everyone, but I do need to thank the Rainbow girls and their advisors for every thing they do. They make our life much easier knowing they are always there. Inspection was well attended with tons of dignitary’s in attendance. We even had the honor of having the Grand Master, Most Worshipful Brother Bradford Goebel in attendance.

Now to get down to the really important stuff; we have a ton of events coming up real soon and I would like to have a great turn out. Saying that if you my brethren are not informed how can I expect you show up. So, here we go.

Our next event will be a Wii bowling event on the 16th of April. We will be having bowling alley type food for refreshments. For those of you that think you can not do this, you’re wrong. It takes very little effort. In fact, you can do it sitting in a chair. So there is no excuse not to attend.

On Saturday April 30th we are having another dinner and movie. Cost is still $10 dollars and all profits will go to Special Olympics. By the way WB Wayne Seamen is doing an outstanding job of raising money for this worthy cause.

We are going to have a busy May with a Mothers day brunch on the 8th and a Table Lodge on the 9th. Cost for the brunch will be minimal. Mothers will be free and the rest will be $5 dollars.

On the 15th of May we will again be manning a table or two for the Cleveland Marathon. If you have never done it, it is a little work but a lot of fun.

One event on October 8th that needs your quick attention is the train ride with Theodore Breck Lodge. I need your reservations right away. The cost is $70 with $25 due now. It should be a great event with wine tasting and gourmet food being served. I believe there will be about 5 or 6 different wines and the same amount of food pairings.

We have a ton of other events planned. If you miss something or want more information please contact one of the officers. I look forward to seeing all of you at one of our events or in Lodge.

Stay healthy and happy

December 9, 2010

Greetings my brethren, it is my pleasure to write you as the new Worshipful Master of Collinwood Lodge. It is my honor to serve the Lodge for this coming year. We are planning a full year and it is my hope we can grow even closer as a fraternity and family.

On December 4, 2010 we had our installation of officers and what a joyous event it turned out to be. Dinner prepared by my mother and sisters turned out superb, both the ham and chicken were delicious. I was honored to have four Grand Masters as our installing team; Most Worshipful Brother Ronald Winnett, Most Worshipful Brother Steven Krekus, Most Worshipful Brother Charles Murphy, and the current Grand Master for the state of Ohio, Most Worshipful Brother Bradford Goebel. This was a night to remember Most Worshipful Brother Krekus, set the tone for the evening by showing that the fellowship within Lodge has to be enjoyable, and it was. We were honored to have Worshipful Brother Suat Aricanli, lead members of the seventh division Knights Templers in presenting our nations colors. Worshipful brother Burt Task did a fine rendition of the flag lecture. Music is something that seems to be missing in our Lodge, but thanks to the Scottish Rite chorus the notes of joy permeated about the room. The night was dedicated to my father Thomas W. McNabb who would have been more than just a proud papa. He would have seen the brotherhood about the room that was evident with everyone in attendance. I had the pleasure of having Worshipful brother elect Chris Rieger, read my dad’s Masonic history. The evening would not have been a success without the fine help of the Rainbow girls and the Eastern Stars. I can’t thank them nearly enough. Special thanks goes out brother Freddy Moses and his wife Dean for being there when I needed them the most, and how can I forget the other two helpers in Linda Collins, and Lianne Vargo, they show how much we are really a family.

I want to thank every one who came out and shared this special night with me, but let me not exclude the people who wanted to be there and for some reason or another couldn’t make it. I know we were in your thoughts. Thank you.

As with any new administration I have planned to add to Collinwood’s legacy. I have asked Rt. Worshipful Brother John Cochell, to take on the task of creating a Past Masters Club. There is knowledge behind the ears and eyes of our Past Masters that should not go to waste. The Special Olympics is also an event we plan to be at, but there is another such an event that is closer to home. Collinwood has sponsored a team at the West Denison baseball league for many years, but I for one never knew what this league was about. This year were going to find out just what it is, pass out hotdogs and drinks and cheer these athletes on. I met one of these athletes this past year and he and his family were excited when I told them we planned to attend. On the back of the page is a list of events for the year. Come out enjoy yourself, come to Lodge, and share in the fellowship like it was meant to be. Come give your opinion, without it we maintain a direction that may be off course. It is you my brethren who have made this fine fraternity what it is. Without you I can’t achieve my goals, of bringing us closer together.

Have a Happy Holiday, a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year.
